Winston Cup &
Busch series team owner, engine builder, car builder, crew chief
tire changer, transmission / rear end specialist and corporate pilot,
these are but a few of the hats that Bob and Dick Rahilly have worn
in the last 25 years. From the first home built race car at age
16 to the 33,000 square foot facility called the “Rahmoc complex”
the brothers Rahilly have done it all.
First and foremost
they are engine builders. From the awesome power of the world championship
winning big-block Chevy off-shore engines, to the race winning reliability
of 600 mile Winston cup small blocks, the brothers have risen to
the top of racing’s elite. Having built engines for the likes of
Morgan Shepard, Joe Rutman, Neil Bonnet, A.J. Foyt, Lake Speed,
John Andretti, Harry Gant, Joe Bessey, Mike Curb, Perry Tripp, Buddy
Griffin, Robert Hamkey, Billy Barnwell, Gary Balough, as well as
most of the Petty family including Kyle, Adam, Maurice, Richie,
and King Richard. As you can see the Rahilly name runs deep in racing.
The search for
horsepower began in Florida with the opening of Rahilly & Grady
Racing Engines in 1977. Only one year later, the domination began
with an unprecedented 77 feature wins. A mere two years later saw
the Rahilly brothers engines win offshore power boating’s most coveted
titles for both the United States and the World. While busy dominating
the local tracks and offshore world, Bob Rahilly met with a Miami
car owner by the name of Butch Mock and together they formed “Rahmoc
Racing Enterprises” in 1978. The new partners entered their first
Winston cup race at Charlotte in October 1978 - And saw their first
victory at the Miller 300 in Charlotte in 1981. In 1986 Rahmoc moved
in to it’s current home, a then state of the art facility consisting
of 33,000 square feet on 90 acres. All through the 1980s and into
the 1990's, the Rahmoc name was near the top of the Winston cup
points, finishing as high as 4th overall in l983 and never outside
of the top 20 in almost 15 years. But Bob’s first love was with
engines, and in 1993 the partnership between Butch and Bob was dissolved.
Since that time Rahmoc has moved forward into the racing engine
business. With Bob and Dick Rahilly doing what they do best building
strong, reliable racing engines.
Today Rahmoc
is still a full service shop with sublet venders on the property
such as Pro-Fab headers. We currently are building engines for NASCAR
Busch and Truck series teams.
However, our mission statement differs from other “engine builders”.
